Miss Irene

Hurricane season in the Atlantic begins June 1st and end November 30th.  Wow, that's six months! Imagine if there were a hurricane every month. There is potential for a lot of damage in that time! Fortunately for us, we live in Puerto Rico, and typically storms go north of us or south of us...something about the Puerto Rican Divide. Actually I'm not sure that's a real thing.  I've just heard my dad talk about it a lot.  He knows a bunch of wierd random facts. Sometimes he makes things up I think. (Don't tell him I said that!)  For us (meaning the Marshalls) here in PR, storms usually go like this.

Two days before a storm is due to hit us: Oh, there's a storm coming? Huh. Let us know if it's still coming in a couple of days.
One day before: Really? It's still headed this way? Ok, well is it big?
Day of storm: It's coming today.  Well, Jon do we have batteries and candles? OK, we're good! Then we pick up the toys in the backyard and put some panels on the back of the house, and sometimes Jon has to tie down some things in camp.
Later while the storm is actually happening we do things like this:

Swordfighting marathon with the King of Narnia a.k.a. Logan

Swimming pool time for the two youngest and craziest which during storms means costumes are donned in the pool because it's darn cold out there!

The sane people of the house had a Settlers marathon. Actually now that I look at it, there are no sane people in any of these pictures.  Who won that game people????  Oh that's right...ME!!

That's what most tropical storm/hurricanes are like here at CdC.  That being said, every ten years or so there comes a storm that actually packs a punch and hits us hard.  I think when that one comes there will be no playing in the pool!

*I don't mean to make light of the damage that Miss Irene did after she left us.  We are praying for the people who are left with the heartache and cleanup.
